Talk to Naruto & friends for free with ChatGPT
This adventure for me was both stupid, and enlightening
I’ve been into Psychology, Sociology and Criminology since I was 11. My favorite show as a kid was “Exhibit A” and “Forensic Files”, because they’d be on around the time I’d be waiting for the rerun of Naruto and InuYasha.
At 32 with self taught knowledge, I decided those professions were not for me. Yet, I continued to study at least 1 hour a day on new info while cross-referencing how it’d apply to old notes I made in school and college. Those notes you didn’t ask? They were character profiles I used to create for fanfics. Hey, I was 12. At least it brought me here, to today.
These days, I have been recompiling all those talking points into something more tangible for writers who don’t want to sift through pages of my notes.
Enter, Saiyan Shinobi’s Chatbots..!!
Instead, just chat to the character that’s tripping you up, paste your story so far and describe the scene you want the character to talk to. You don’t need to pay for Poe until you reach your own free limits — 3000 points a day.
But that’s not too bad, unless you’re a serious fanfic writer or just simply always wanted to share tea or sake with Itachi or Deidara.
I made a Shinobi mission out of creating a Character Chatbot, without using ChatGPT’s direct site. I suggest you start there if you’re looking for a tutorial. I’m only showing how to chat with, and where to find the bots!
Understanding Poe’s Compute Points in 2024
I’ve been using Poe.com since 2022, back when every single base model had a quota of free messages per day. Poe has always been the tank when it came to testing out new LLM models and prompt engineering skills I developed since 2018, and it used to allow GPT-4 use even as a free user. Ah, good times.
Alas, these days you get 3000 compute points a day to spend as a free user for non-subscriber level, and 1,000,000 a month as a subscriber, for the more powerful models.
Still, switching between Claude, ChatGPT, Assistant, PlaygroundAI, and StableDiffusionXL on on platform is why I use it daily.
That said, here’s how you can chat to my Naruto character profiles as a writer, or simply as a fan that is tired of trying out new ones only to find they’re a little cringy. If you’re going to be cringe, might as well do it in character. At least, that’s my philosophy on fandom appreciation.
How To Use NarutoxGPT on Poe
Above, you’ll see the 20 per message. These points change based on which model is used, I used ChatGPT as a base so they’re the ‘cheapest’ for your limit. As I stated, free users get 3000 Compute points per day.
So you just need to learn how to ‘talk’ to these bots using a ‘markdown’ — a formatted way to type.
Say you want Naruto to meet an OC! Here’s two ways you can answer:
**”Hi, I’m name, and what you want to chat about.”**
This will have him chat back to you directly, but it will be unpredictable.
In the next prompt type, we’ll get a bit more creative.
**”Hey, I’m name,”** _Name studied Naruto with a curious glance, noting they were eating the same Ramen with extra Cashu and Narutomaki._ **”You got good taste.”**
_Name nodded slightly in approval, leaving room for conversation over a meal._
I actually prefer this format of answer. I think it’s the best for writing prompts and basic conversation to analyze if it’s in character.
For me, Naruto’s loneliness shows here best since it makes it seem like he goes to Ichiraku every day in case a friend is there to share a meal with. 🥺
I used ‘Markdown’ to train all my bots, so they all are able to render it. You just need to get used of typing with asterisks, quotations, and underscores:
_Italics_ are marked with underscores. Put these at the beginning and end of each paragraph that describe what the scene is doing.
_To get even more direct with internal thoughts, you can use ‘single quotation marks’ to make sure it’s clearly an internal thought._
**”Dialog”** is marked with quotation marks and will be what the bots ideally respond to. The four asterisks must be used to surround dialog if you want to keep the bot focused on the characters words, otherwise, they might not talk at all.
How to continue “distracted” AI stories on Poe
If you’re bored and ✨extra✨ like I am, get used of copy/pasting each message you liked as is, or edit them to your liking.
Save it and upload it to a new chat! To make your chats less confusing, delete your old convo after the bot picks up where it left off in the new chat.
The bots might time out on you based on story length, or content, so keep that in mind.
Just use the Paperclip symbol, and chose the .txt or .doc file you wish the bot to analyze.
Then type out your next idea for the bot to respond to as if you were still continuing the last conversation!
- If they don’t, just delete the message and try again, or use the “Refresh” symbol by the “Share” button.
- Don’t use the broom, because that broom deletes the context of the entire conversation. Or use it if you want. Experimenting is fun too.
- Press enter, be sure the bot answers before you delete your last conversation. And there you have it.
And there you have it, a basic rundown on how to use my Poe chatbots! :)
